Buildings that breathe with the land they sit on.
Stratum is an architecture practice working at the boundary of residential, commercial, and adaptive-reuse projects. We are small on purpose — every project gets a principal in the room.
Projects, in brief.
A sample of recent and ongoing work — residential, commercial, cultural, and adaptive reuse. Each project is shaped first by the site, the program, and the conversation with the client.
A studio approach across scales.
From a kitchen renovation to a 40,000 square foot adaptive reuse, the same care, the same studio.

Old buildings, new lives.
Specialty in historic and aging buildings — what to keep, what to surrender, and how to bring code, programs, and intent into one move. Tax credit work where it applies.
- Historic building surveys
- State & federal tax credits
- Code, life-safety, accessibility
- Sensitive intervention planning

Small studio, old hands.
Stratum was founded in 2014 by Anneke Voss after twelve years at larger firms. The studio is intentionally small — eight people, three of them principals — so every client works with a principal from first meeting through final punch list.
A note before blueprints.
Send a sketch, a photograph, a paragraph. We'll come back within three working days with whether the studio is the right fit and what a first conversation looks like.
